Game Over: Final Thoughts on Earthworm Jim HD (BadaOS)

I am a slightly proud owner of the first gen Samsung Wave. While it boasts of a gorgeous Super AMOLED screen wrapped in a very sophisticated looking body, its BadaOS still leaves a lot to be desired. It is functional, yes, but the different niggles can be quite grating at times.

My precioussssss

I used to need to turn my phone off once every few days to clear up the memory leaks, but that has mostly been done away with with the latest update. Unfortunately, the browser, which was somewhat livable prior to the update, now forces web pages to display in its natural width instead of working with a mobile resolution which it used to do.

But I digress.

One other thing I'm quite irked about is the rather slow build up of the Samsung App Store. There is negligible support from the big time mobile store developers and most of the stuff in there are CRAP.

Ooh Lady Cycle

I tried wading in the crap last weekend and was greeted with a Gameloft sale announcement. All Gameloft games for P60 each! Yes, all 6 of them!

There was one game that stood out however: Earthworm Jim HD, a supposedly high-definition remake of the classic platformer. The screenshots were decent enough,
although the virtual keypad and buttons were worrying. I looked at the user comments and there was only one, and she didn't even buy the game and was merely asking for the game to be released for free.

So hey, what's P60 even if it's crap, right?

Virtual keypad and buttons = unplayable.

The game is impossible to control. With my huge hands, pressing the right button would mean pressing the down button as well. Larger buttons? The controls already take up a significant portion of the display! Besides, what use is "high-definition graphics" if your hands are covering a huge part of the screen?

Virtual touch screen controls? NEVER AGAIN.
